Community and Campus History
Think of the possiblities...like in The Velveteen Rabbit, if you love something it becomes real. We know the teaching here is real, and sometimes the learning is too. Have you ever had a story you wanted to tell about your experience on campus? Tell us what makes this place real to you, and we will begin to collect here a community history. It will provide a venue to connect to our campus in a human way, and serve as a reminder that each of us is a real person, with a unique and shared history.
So, why did you come here, and where from? What was it like when you got here? Who or what made you feel welcome, and why have you decided to stay, thus far? Tell us about our college. We want to listen to your stories.

Here's one of my Cascadia memories from before I was a student:
I enjoy the time I spend caring for my children. In the past I was able to stay home and we did everything together. I remember my adventurous little troop, participating in all kinds of shenanigans. I called them “errands.” That’s what any proper mother would call them. But, really they were just the daily distractions we call life. I could not always make an arguement for their educational value, of course, but we had fun. We went to the park, walked the Burke-Gilman trail or the Town-gown loop, or just took in Main Street. We often drove to visit the zoo for the day, or the aquarium, or rode our bikes down to The College. The College was one of our favorite “errands.” For a trip to the UW Bothell/Cascadia campus meant picking out a treat at the University Bookstore, while mom looked through various literary works, or checked out the latest stationary (I love writing notes). For my kids, this quick excursion was hard to beat. It usually included wandering through the halls, looking at the big pictures and artwork. We received nods and winks from students, faculty, and staff alike. Inevitably someone would comment on the college’s “youngest students.” These budding undergrad’s favorite art pieces are the wetlands sculptures in the University of Washington Library. They capture the treasures of the nearby native areas in its resin. How many times we wandered in to look at them, then headed down to the boardwalk to explore. Many times, while my offspring poked around in the grass and flipped smooth creek stones, I watched them through hazy ideas of returning to school. One day I would go back, even if just for fun. One day I would do it for myself. One day when I had time…
Do you find this valuable?
