Here's a great site for ways to support quality reflection activities during service learning:
http://www.compact.org/disciplines/reflection/@ UW BothellAThe benefits of community-based learning are well documented: collaboration among students, faculty and community provide high-quality educational experiences that apply classroom learning to genuine problems in real-world contexts and contribute meaningfully to sustainable regional development. Departments at the UW Bothell offer courses with potential community service components each quarter. This spring, relationships between local agencies and coursework in the Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences program are being facilitated by our new Community Partnership Coordinator,
Michelle Cruver. Michelle is working on courses with local partners for Spring Quarter including:
The Politics of Sex Education and
Sociology of Sexuality, with Kari Lerum;
Social Problems, with Jonathan Wender;
The Seattle Region, with Sara Starkweather;
Exploring American Culture: Race, Ethnicity, and Immigration, with David Goldstein and
Disability and Human Rights with Kanta Kochhar-Lindgren. Check out these and other courses, as well as service learning opportunities from Nursing, Education, Environmental Science, and CUSP, and find out how to get involved with a community partner on our website.
