Community Partnerships Fair May 7, 3 - 7pm at Northcreek Events Center
May 7th, 2008 promises to be an exciting day at the University of Washington Bothell/Cascadia Community College. The Community Partnerships Fair will showcase the efforts of students, faculty and staff in the area of service learning, as well as provide our collocated institutions with an opportunity to honor the commitment of our partners in the community. We are planning a multi-modal and multi-media event involving poster sessions, films, performances, wiki demonstrations, storytelling workshops and panel discussions. There will be food, music, and a recognition ceremony for our community partners at 6:00 pm featuring Dr. Bill Christopher, President of Cascadia Community College, and Dr. Kenyon Chan, Chancellor of the University of Washington Bothell.
We still need posters for the poster gallery, any photos of service work you might have for a slideshow, and volunteers for the day of the fair. Contact Bethany Such (bsuch@cascadia.edu) or Michelle Cruver (mcruver@uwb.edu) if you want to help out.

Space Huskies for Spring!
Service-learning/volunteer opportunity: Space Huskies
Space Huskies is a University of Washington Bothell project now in its fourth year. It provides hands-on learning experiences for fifth and sixth graders based on a joint NASA and National Endowment for the Arts curriculum. UW Bothell students serve as team leaders for groups of elementary school students in weekly classroom sessions, creating imaginative elements of a Mars community, based on real science. The program teaches writing, researching, problem solving, communication, and teamwork. The culminating moment occurs each spring when projects are unveiled for family, friends, and a NASA astronaut at an annual science fair.
We are looking for team leaders who can meet with students at Woodin Elementary School (just a couple of miles from campus—and we’ll car pool) on Fridays from 12:45-2:45 PM from April 18 through June 6. The Community Science Fair will be on Wed., June 11, from 6 to 8 PM.
UW Bothell students participating will need to provide an additional 1-2 hours/week for preparation and may choose to receive course credit or use it as a project for a course with a service-learning option.
For more information, contact Becky Rosenberg (brosenberg@uwb.edu or 425-352-5378).

Want to be a big brother or big sister????
It's EASY! You need to go to their website and contact the office local to you (Seattle) and set up an appointment to meet with someone there. You then go over your hopes and aspirations when being a big brother/sister. They set you up with someone that best fits you and them, it takes up to two months for this process. Then your set to go! It's a one year commitment, but people often go beyond that.
BIG BROTHERS ARE NEEDED DESPERATELY!!!! There are over 400 little brothers in waiting for a big brothers and there are new opportunities for less of a commitment for big brother's for this reason alone. It is a sports program in which your set up with your little brother and then can sign up for pre-set dates made by BBBS to play these sports. For more info go to www.bbbs.org.
